What's a good english book with an asian author?

It's an independent reading assignment.

Personally, I prefer historical fiction or fantasy.
a novel that's not too long or two short.
(and of course, a book you can't put down or get bored of)

it has to be by an asian author.
it can't be an asian novel written by a white author.
