What's a Chick Flick?

The other day a male friend referred to Girl with the Pearl Earring as a chick flick. I completely disagreed, so he asked me for a definition. My reply was "Any film with Hugh Grant".
What do you think makes a film into a chick flick?
 
a romcom thats more rom than com ;)

or movies for big girls like titanic and star wars (probably not what most would call a chick flick lol)
 
A chick flick is an insult directed towarRAB films that don't have too much:

1) Jason Statham or Jet Lee beating their chests.
2) Car chases.
3) Fighting.
4) Explosions.
5) Hot, naked women with IQ's of 80.
6) Special effects (normally these are used to fill in the gaps where there is no acting or story).
 
Chick flick - lots of people expressing their emotions wanting more from a relationship and closure of issues.
Guy film - death , killing and boobies.

and of course the cast is usually female dominated. cuz chicks are sexist that way;)
 
any sort of movies which are about romance, relationships, frienRABhips, fashion...

btw I'm female and I hate those movies. I much prefer funny/dramatic movies like Home Alone or Trading Places or shark movies like Jaws! Anything business related like Wall Street is also on my list of fave movies.
 
Romantic comedies are usually referred to as chick flicks. When Harry Met Sally, You've Got mail, Sleepless in Seattle, that sort of thing.
