Whats a better hdtv for gaming? Plasma, Lcd? v.ps3

not at all. with plama you have to worry about images being burned in (if you play the same game a lot, you chance the h.u.d. or some other part of the display getting burned in). the life of the tv is also about half of that of an lcd, so you'll be buying a replacement much sooner than with an lcd. yes plasma looks more crisp and has better color, but i don't think the difference is great enough to warrant getting one over an quality lcd or dlp, if it's for gaming purposes. plus for the same price you can get a much larger lcd or dlp than you can a plasma.

40" 51d, on ign it said it was 1 of the worst for game lag, but apparently it was only the first few for that model they changed somthing, i got mine way l8r and i assume the problem is solved since ive tested it.

Ill keep my options open to wesitnghouse i suppose, but ill only be purchasing from costco just in case anything goes wrong. well see if i come home with anything today, if i can find a parking spot at the damn place..

This is very true, and I HAVE a plasma and I play games and watch TV on it. I have read around, and most places say that after the first 100 hours of use, Burn in has little to no chance of happening.

The first day i got my TV, I turned on HBO and left it on all day (yes, 24 hours) since then I have used it between 6-8 hours a day and it has over 100 hours now.

I have not had any burn in, and I doubt I will.

All you have to do is take care of your shit and not be a dumbass who leaves it on while downloading a PS3 demo, or other shit and you will be fine.

50k, i think. and yeah the newer ones don't have as much of a problem with burn in if you take care of your tv. the main difference i think is cost, since plasma is more expensive and uses 30-40% more electricity.

everyone here has recommended the Bravias and after seeing them in comparison to all the other displays I wholeheartedly agree. I just wish they were cheaper.. .

do some research man.
plasmas have been significantly getting better in terms of burn in and life time.

plasma burn in is just about non-existent with the newer plasmas as well as the shelf life of well over 50k hours. the picture quality can just not be beat with plasma and makes it well worth it over LCD and especially DLP.

i went to best buy today and viewed alot of the lcd's talked about here and was able to make very good comparisons. this is comparing 26" and 32" lcd's.

As far as picture quality goes, Sony and Samsung hands down. Very clear pictures with deep vibrant colors.
Westinghouse is next up and above the rest i saw, including LG, toshiba, sharp, insignia. So if youre lookin for a budget tv id definetly go with that.

the quality on the samsung and sony were noticable, the sony not being any better that i could notice than the samsung.
Im gonna go with the samsung 26", perfect size for my room, just deciding on either the LN-S2641D or LN-S2651D (4000:1 contrast)

i don't know if you really want to rely on judging monitors at best buy/circuit city etc, since they always crank up the brightness and color settings to the max, which isn't what you really want to be using when you take it home...

I love my 46'' Samnsung 1080P display, no lag on Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii...I do however seem to have some stuttering every once and a while on the older systems gamecube and ps2 (only when progressive scan is not enabled).

Colors are just amazing, bright and crisp. I have about 15-20 HD channels and they just look insane. Normal DVDs look alright (slightly grainy because of the size of the TV even with my DVD upconverter), however when I play HD-DVD's it blows my mind, lol.

I bought mine from best buy about 5 months ago, they were going for 3,000, however they priced matched online and gave it to me for 2,400+tax (like $2,550). I can not complain, none of my friends have seen a better LCDTV.

I will test out the PS3 just as soon as my friend brings it over, he has resistance and also NBA

I have a NEC GT 5000 1080P projector and it looks absolutely amazing, but I think I might turn part of the garage into a rec room and move it in there. So for the living room I might go with one of these.

Whoa. You have to worry about burn-in (Coined "Image retention" now, since it can be somewhat reversed) with just about any display. Newer plasmas have a lot of features to prevent this. Image shift, white screen, etc.

You may be a bit mistaken on the life expectency due to word-choice. Most plasmas are rated with a half-life. On mine it is about 60k hours, but I have read that it's closer to 50k in tests. That's still around 20 years watching over five hours of television a day. This doesn't mean that it has half the life expectancy, but rather that at the 60k hour mark, it will be about half as bright as it was when you bought it.

The price-point. This is a bit more up in the air. For the most part, LCD tends to be the most expensive, plasma second, and projection tv's are the cheapest. CRT's are, of course, the cheapest, but not really an option for anything over 34". There are always sales which change this, but they are exceptions. So no, you cannot get a larger LCD for the same price. Unless you meant LCD projection, which is completely different.

watchu guys think of this deal? $840, free shipping. this goes for $1012+tax at best buy.

Samsung LN-S2651D, 4000:1 contrast ratio + gaming mode is doing it for me. This tv looked reeaally good, as good if not better colors than the sony, while being just as clear

Plasma is the best way to go. The only down side is burn-in. It's gotten better but it's still there. The PS3 should have a screen saver so that should help a little bit in case you leave it on pause or something. Still, you can get burn-in if you're playing a game that leaves a still picture/icon up for too long, i.e. map, health, etc. But again, it's gotten much better and isn't much of an issue. You have to be playing for hours and hours (with the same screen) before it can cause damage.

Otherwise, plasma is definitely the way to go. The frame rate is significantly faster than LCD which is very important for gaming, imo.

Also, the black level on plasma is MUCH better/more accurate than LCD; very important when you're playing dark games. For example, if you're playing Star Wars, you want space to be black, not gray.
