are the sunday opening hours rules? what can shops open on suday.tesco is 10-4 and the coop is 10-10 and some shops close at 7 what are the rules and why do some shops close

Small shops with a floor area of up to 280 square metres (3,000 square feet) can choose their own Sunday opening hours. But they must be aware that staff who work on a Sunday may have special employment rights.

Many large shops with a floor area greater than this limit can only open for a set number of hours on a Sunday.
10 - 4 or 11 - 5

Large shops (more than 280 square metres of sales space) can trade for only six hours on a Sunday, and these 6 hours can be whenever they choose. Small shops can open for as long as they want.

Certain types of businesses, such as petrol stations, motorway services, farm shops, pharmacies, shops at ports and airports etc. can trade for as long as they want also.

Also, some large shops that are affected by Sunday Trading hours will open for longer than six hours... maybe 30 mins or an hour extra at the start of the day, when customers can browse and choose products but not actually buy them until trading hours.

it depends on the size of the shop ,,if they are big ones they can only open 10 untill 4pm,,,and they have to close on easter sunday, the smaller ones are allowed to stay open

Under the 1994 Trading Act retail outlets with a floor space exceeding 280 sq metres can only open for 6 hours between 10am and 6pm ,excluding Easter Sunday, when they must close.
The coop must be smaller than 280 sq metres
Privately owned corner shops can open when they want.
