Jan 1,1863 Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation this was his second warning to the South. His first warning was on September 22, 1862 which he said that the Confederate slaves should return the slaves to the North for freedom and if it was not done he would issue all slaves eternally free by 1863 when the South ignored him on January 1, 1863 he signed what is now known as the Emancipation Proclamation.
