I do this myself: polyurethane...sorry it's nothing fancy holds up great
....on a sign I have outdoors all year in Maine in the ice and snow and cold i revarnish every three years or so.....polyurethane will yellow over time but in a good way.....also you can not apply it outside if it is really cold....check the can.
