Hi everyone! First, I've been clean for almost 2 weeks now - the depression is startng to lift, the physical withdrawals are gone - I'm feeling better, much better.

I have a slight problem though - I went and had a tooth drilled and crowned yesterday and I am reallllly hurting. He gave me a script for Loracet which I promptly ripped up and threw away. I've been taking Tylenol and Advil for the pain but it's just not cutting it. I have to go back Tuesday for two more fillings and then in a couple of weeks for my permanent crown and then for two wisdom teeth extractions. What on earth do I do for the pain?? :( Right now my entire jaw, tongue, tooth, mouth just hurts and throbs. Do I call and ask him for something different? What would be "safe" for me to take? Or am I just stuck suffering??

HOLY SMOKES!

You poor thing!!!!!! I am a BIG BABY when it comes to dental work so I personally don't think that I would be able to go thru it with out the meRAB.. I had all 4 of my wisdoms extracted last march and ended up getting dry sockets and even with percocet the pain kept me awake at night.. Now... most people don't end up getting dry sockets so I don't know how bad it would have been had I not......... I really don't know what to tell you.... I just feel for your situation! Maybe some of the seasoned veterans would have a better idea for you!!! I will be keeping an eye on this post so I can see what their suggestions are!

Also... YOU RIPPED UP THE SCRIPT!!!!! THAT IS AWESOME!!! A lot of people would not have the strength to do that so good for you!!!!

May strength be with you and GREAT job getting thru your detox phase! What a huge accomplishment!!! BE PROUD!

Impressive!

I would advise your dentist before your next appointment. Perhaps he could prescribe you some non-narcotic pain medication, then get yourself a heating pad, and a soft pillow. You can do it

If you can postpone your dental work then do that after this one tooth is fixed otherwise take what you need for pain...but instead of narcotics ask your dentist to write you a prescription to oral Toradol 10mg/(Ketorolac)...it is a very strong but it is not a narcotic. You can only use this drug sparingly because it can be harsh on the liver but you can take it for any kind of pain just not on a long term basis. Tell your dentist that you are trying to stay clean and sober so this is the drug you would want to use. I keep a few pills in my med cabinet just for such occasions. This drug is also given in emergency rooms for those that want to stay clean and sober but in serious pain...emergency rooms give it as an injection however it can cause stomach upset so it isn't the first line of pain killer. Good luck.

Great idea's guys!

I knew some veterans would have a better plan for these situations than what I have come up with yet! Thanks for the info!

I agree with Secrets that this is above my head, but congrats on ripping up the scripts. I threw a few away the other day as well and refused one from the doctor.

I personally would let the dentist know that you are recently recovered and do not want anything narcotic. S/He will understand.

I hate tooth aches and dental problems myself. Good luck to you and I hope the pain goes away for you!!

Torodal is a blessing It takes the pain away immediately. The plus is no High at all it just takes the pain away thats it. Of course tt your dr. before using.
