What would you do if you found a backpack in your front yard with court papers in it?

We found a backpack under the hedge in our front yard/driveway. There was a wallet, but it had nothing in it but some superglue. All the pockets in the backpack were unzipped. I looked in one pocket, and there were some court papers with names on them. Other than that, there wasn't much. What should I do with it? I worry that someone was assaulted (we live near the local "No-Tell Motel", and every once in awhile, things like that happen near our house).
Thanks everyone. I called the police station and brought it by their office.

Have the police come to your residence and pick it up. If you are not an adult, have your parents be there when they come.
Show the police exactly where you found it.
Let them contact the attorney whose name appears on the paperwork.
Depending on the type of legal paperwork, If they are court papers, the name of the owner of the paperwork is probably on those papers also.
Or for that matter the papers could be old.
Let the police handle it.

The court papers will have an attorney's name, address and telephone number on them. Call the attorney and tell him that these papers mysteriously appeared in your driveway. If they are important the attorney will want them back.
