What would someone in the army want from their mobile telephone while outdoors?

Please include features that you would want, they don't need to have been invented. Also the look and functions of the phone you would require many thanks.
 
A signal, because some places soldiers get to that's a bit of an issue.

Also it would be useful if it couldn't be detected by electronic warfare, because right now a mobile phone call sends up a signal to a network that a smart operator can spot and have a missile heading towards even before you've said hello.

That's why everyone in the Royal Navy who was aboard any ship in the last Gulf War had their phones secured in their divisional officer's cabin.
