solonoids aren't on the firewall, one is on the starter... you may have another for the heaqter/air control system, also not usually mounted on the firewall...

the clicking you're probably hearing is the starter soloniod and there isn't enough juice or throughput when it's cold to actually turn it over. i lived in a very cold climate for a very long time as well as worked in a service station (remeber those?)....
