So my sister has a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition, with a 5.4 Liter. So one day she just started driving and her car started shaking badly, so she stopped and called me. I drove it, it wasn't shaking too badly so i drove it to Autozone to get the code pulled from the check engine light. Cylinder * was misfiring before 1500 RPM's. So I replaced the Spark Plug and reset the CPU by unplugging the battery. I did find water in the hole where the spark plug was. I checked all of her fluids and they were fine. A couple of days went by and then it was shaking again. So my sister took it in to her mechanic and they replaced 2 coils. Then it was fixed, a couple of days later it started shaking again, she took it back in and they replaced two different coils. It was fixed and then a couple of days went by and now it is messed up again shaking. That was like 2 weeks ago. So since then a couple of times her car wouldnt start and she would have to jump it, but the lights and such would work and also she says that her gas gauge has been messed up. Like she would have filled her tank up yesterday and then the next day her gauge would say it is almost empty and the computer would say she has like 40 miles left to go. On the car not starting I say build up on the ground connection to the battery. So I cleaned off the lugs on the battery and the connectors. She hasnt had to jump her car since. So I am thinking the mechanic doesnt know what he is doing because there is obviously something causing the coils to blow because coils dont go out like this, RIGHT? She has spent way too much money and I am trying to help her out and fix it for her. Please help me out. What should I check? What do you think is the cause? Thank you very much.
Only the old coils are blowing. They have changed four now, but they all have been the old ones.
