what would be the best setup in this car?

i have a 98 mustang coupe and i wana get some subs for it. i was gona but two 12 inch RE srX subs and a 2000 watt amp for 300 but now my dad wont let me cuz he claims that i dont need that much bass. so i just wondered if i could get some subs that would slam in my car for a cheaper price... i also need an amp
