I just purchased a 1997 Mustang and am really dedicated to making this a great project car. There's two courses of action I'm considering taking and I'm curious which one would be better.
Details to note. Whichever option I choose, I will be getting a new paint job, restoring the interior, and getting new rims on it. Also I am NOT planning on turning this into a monster to take to the drag strip. I'm simply a young car jockey who wants to have fun with a project car, and who doesn't mind a little bit of a "kick".
Now option one: I currently have a donor car available to me to do an engine swap (v6 to a 1992 5.0l v8). This wouldn't be too expensive, but the motor does have 150k miles on it and the older stock v8s are nothing special.
Option two: My current motor is running real strong for it's age (also 150k). There are some things it could use, but those are all fairly inexpensive. My thoughts were since I will end up over hauling most of the car anyways due to old age, (this is ambitious) would I be better off holding off until the near future (when I have more resources available) and swapping for one of the newer 5.0l v8s (the coyote)? I realize that when compared, this option is far more pricey when it comes to parts. However, seeing as everything will need to be replaced anyways, I might be better off getting a new engine or putting another old engine in the car.
