...human race 17 generations from now?
Oops... The word "be" got kicked out while I was trying to fit the question into the space allotted...

But seriously, I'm wondering what the big deal really is if the human race is not perpetuated? What difference does it make in the grand scheme of the universe?
Keyvan - You have deftly proven through your answer here that you have completely missed the boat as to what real conservatives think and believe. It's got nothing to do with God or money. It has everything to do with the personal freedom to choose to go after God or money. Big difference.

Good conservative thinking. It doesn't matter, because people don't matter. I like your phrase "grand scheme of the universe"- what is the universe without people. I thought conservatives believed in God? Do you really want to destroy God's creation just so your beloved rich fat cats can make more money? Your values are funny.

It's not in our nature to want to kill our offspring.

Who knows what the grand scheme of things is? I most certainly don't. But I am not big on killing kids.

If we are doing something that will seriously challenge the species, then at some point we will try to change that thing we are doing. Hopefully, it won't be too late, but absent new technology that doesn't use fossil fuels, I wouldn't be especially hopeful.

If one believes in a spiritual path, it could mean alot of difference, but for logical existential purposes...you are totally correct. It means absolutely nothing at all. In fact, the earth itself would probably be a much better place if humans were to disappear ecologically speaking.

what I don't get is that while some movers and shakers fret publicly about the hazards of cow-methane production on Earth (a fancy version of Oliver Twist's Beadle--- "too much meat, ma'rm); others hypothesize about living on Saturn's methane-moon. some of them are probably doing both

We aren't in charge of weather we live or die, that is part of a much bigger scheme of things...we were not present when the dinosaurs died off, when our time is up, nothing we do or don't do will stop it.

nothing.
You see, for all of us reading this right this moment, life as we
now know it will be over in 120 years.
Proof? Do you know anyone over 129 years old?
We should clean up after ourselves and leave nothing but our foot prints
