What will healthcare look like in 2030-2040 in a very low carbon society?

The question is posed in an article noting that hospitals will be promoting meat-free menus as part of a strategy to cut global warming emissions across the National Health Service.

Your thoughts on the shape of health care in the not-too-distant future?

The only meat that can be cut safely for health reasons is fish and fowl. Pork should be limited because of its high fat content that is difficult to digest, same with any white meat because the fats are not digestible and build up in ones system.
 
It will also save money both in terms of food cost and waste, and it is probably more in keeping with the various religions of the doctors and patients in our ever more multi-cultural society.

All of that is good, especially if the taxpayers are going to have to foot more of the bill.

But physiologically, they should make sure that they replace meat with vegetable sources of equivalent proteins and fats. This is possible but it is not easy. And it would be extremely difficult in a 'nut free' programme.

How does cutting meat from menu's reduce CO2 emissions?

The energy in a cow is One trip from the farm to the salebarn, one trip from the salebarn to feedlot/processing plant, From the plant to the store. This is about the same for corn, only corn the grown has to be plowed and the seed planted.

Cattle eat vegitation that os not sutable for human consumption. You will not see cattle in our breadbasket states, or at least on the good ground.
