What will Bell do with the new Nimiq 5 satellite?

If Bell were to use 72.7W you would need a replacement dish to get all 3 birds or second dish for the third bird. Also, all SW44s switches would have to be replaced by 1) SW64s switches or 2) DPP44 switches & have DP/DPP compatible LNBs. Another option is if they change the whole dish out with a triple DP LNB head like Dish uses, you can have three output lines from it which would eliminate the need for the DPP44 switch as long as you do not need any more than 3 output lines. I doubt any of this will happen anytime soon.

Or this might happen

A deal is worked out between BEV/CEIL/Dish.

BEV
East-
72.5
Locals(16 TRS)
82/91(64 TRS total)/129(16 TRS)
Specia;ty/HD/Ethnics

west
148(16 TRS)this Dish nets sat rxchange 16 TRS for 72.5
locals
82/91/129(same as east)
Specialty/HD/Ethnics

but for both BEV and dish to use eacj others sats I do believe they need to get some type of permissuion from the FCC & not the CRTC but some other Canadian agency?

But if that could be worked out it would be perfect

So it's okay for Canadian satellite companies to sell off Canadian satellite capacity to American's, but it's illegal for Canadians to buy American satellite television services. I hope the thing burns up in space.

16 transponders on N5 are leased to Dishnet. The other 16 may be used by Bell. Bell probably won't need them until 2011 unless a lot more HD specialty channels are launched. Use of N5 will require a dish upgrade so Bell will want to avoid that for for most customers.

My bet is that Bell will take over the DTV bird already at 72.5 temporarily until Nimiq 5 is launched.

It looks like BEV is leasing off half of Nimiq 5 to Dish Network.

This last paragraph states they'll receive discounts on receivers, which might be to help pay for the pending MPEG4 upgrade. I hope they haven't given away the farm!

It is Expressvu's dish at 72.9 and the most they are allowed to lease at any one time is 16TPs, half of the capacity of the dish, so there is no reason I could think of, of Expressvu not using the other 16. Now, getting the other 16TPs at 129 is speculative but probably going to happen, since the same rules apply at that orbital location and Expressvu is the only BSS satellite provider in Canada, and Ciel 2 is a BSS satellite (Starchoice is FSS, both are DBS).

If we in the West get to use satellite 129, I don't think we'll be able to use one dish. My old 18'' dish may have some use yet.

No need for anyone to worry about changing any hardware for a while according to The Sky Report:

Nimiq 5 Takes Off With DISH Double Down

Telesat’s Nimiq 5 satellite successfully lifted off yesterday afternoon on a Proton rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Prior to launch, EchoStar Corp. upped its capacity agreement with Telesat, contracting for full capacity on the Nimiq 5 instead of the half previously agreed to. Full capacity will allow EchoStar to devote the satellite’s 32 high-powered Ku-band transponders to its wholly owned DISH Network. •

I guess I'd be a wrecking crew if I spoke with forked tongue, but the facts are the facts and people need to be informed.

A new 3 lnb dish

or or single 18" "Dish 300" dish with a feed going to a multiswitch already supplied with both feeds from a 20" "Dish 500".

There wouldn't be ANY dish that could do 82-91-129, as the most you can get is 40degree seperation. So it would become a 2 Dish solution. Thing is, with adding 72.5 for many people it would also be a 2 dish solution since in Ontario, 82w is the Peak elevated satellite, so hitting 72-82-91 is not technically possible without a crazy satellite that takes that into consideration the different elevations as opposed to skew.

I agree with the Ciel thing, Dish is leasing 16TPs at 72.5 and already has 16TPs at 129w. Ciel2 is going to have 16 BSS TPs (read:Expressvu type, not Starchoice type) that won't be used and unless another company decides to startup in Canada, which I cant forsee happening, Expressvu is the only people who can use it for End-User purposes.

What do I forsee being the difference between 72.5/129? Well, I disagree in that I don't think it will be locals, or at least 'major city' locals. Instead, I think we could see networks such as the Movie Network with their east feed on one and the west feed on the other, and eventually the small DMAs such as 72.5 having MCTV-HD and 129 having CBC-N HD. But the main ones, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, Winnipeg and I am sure a case can be made for a few other DMAs won't be leaving the main 82-91mux.

The other possibility is they could simply just mirror stations between the two orbital locations. I think it is a waste, but then again Dish Network is doing it right now with 61/129 for all of their CONUS broadcasting, and Expressvu could easily do the same.

Just my 2 cents...
