you should feel protective with your daughter when it comes to the internet. As a parent myself, my children become very nagging. I allow them to use MSN (an instant messenger) but I closley monitor their conversations and the amount of time they spen on the computer. If you allow them to do the same, I strongly reccomend that you keep a close eye on their contacs list and randomly point out a name on ther list and allow them to tell you who it is, If they cannot tell you, make them delete them.
