What was your first ever animated series purchase?

Question is simple. What is the first ever animated series you bought or recieved as a gift? It could be either a VHS or DVD, and it could also be a complete season or a few episodes at a time, doesen't matter.

For me it would be X-Men The Animated Series on VHS I got back in like 1996, I believe it was the first 2 episodes. The first DVD I got with any kinds of animated series content on it was one of the old school TMNT volumes, I think it was Volume 1, it had a pic of the entire team standing around a pothole with Michaelangelo sticking out of it. I still have the TMNT disc, but I have no clue what happened to the X-Men VHS, I was young and probably lost it.

Hmmm... I had some G.I. Joe, The Real Ghostbusters, and Voltron on VHS in the mid-80s, but those were episodes recorded from TV, so they probably don't count. Some of the earliest I can remember that we bought were Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, DuckTales, and Rescue Rangers tapes we got in the late-80s, along with the Pryde of the X-Men pilot.

But I know for sure the first I bought on DVD was Batman: The Animated Series - Volume 1. :)

I believe, Looney Tunes/Harveytoons public domain tapes aside, that my very first purchase was a TMNT video when Burger King was having their promotion for the animated series/LA movie that was coming.

'April Foolish' was the first actual animated series episode I paid for with my own money. Unfortunately I didn't get the other three tapes in that collection until years later through flea markets and garage sales.

The Simpsons season 1 DVD when it came out in 2001. Before that, I taped numerous episodes of various shows off TV, but never received official releases, except for movies.

Transformers Season 1. The day I bought my PS2 (first DVD player) I went straight to Amazon and bought that and the movie.

The first Looney Tunes collection.

First series I bought complete about was BTAS, also pick up a new vol evey few years, after the first vol was release.

Our first cartoon videotape was some VHS tape called "Mickey's Favorites" (?) from way back when in 1986, to go with our first VCR, an hour-long compilation of Disney shorts.

-B.

I remember getting a bunch of Disney videotapes that consisted of Pinocchio, Bambi, The Little Mermaid, and some others I can't recall.

When I was really little, my grandfather gave me a vhs release of some episodes from the old Dick Tracy tv series, the one with his covert band of amazing stereotypes. I had a Muppet Babies tape but it was a video storybook and not the actual cartoon. The first ones I bought myself were some of the Marvel Video releases of the 80's Spider-Man series and later other Marvel stuff like Night Of The Sentinels from Pizza Hut, which I played a million times.

*edit* I did also get a TMNT tape from my mom back in the early nineties.

I'm not sure what it was for VHS, though the earliest cartoon I can remember having and watching on VHS was a best-of tape of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. It had "King Cramalot", "Bad Rap", "Karate Koopa", and "The Koopas Are Coming! The Koopas Are Coming!" on it.

DVD-wise, I think my first animation purchase was Toy Story 2, though technically that was a "family" DVD, not in my own collection.

I think the first VHS ever bought for me would have been The Get-Along-Gang (although actually, I think it was Beta and not VHS). The first DVD I bought would have been the Clerks animated series.
