I read it in primary school. The main character was a girl and her dad cuts down a tree (it was a special kind of tree, like a Thorne tree or something) in backyard (i think?), anyway there was like a weird tree sprite living in it and it wont leave the girl alone until she finds it a new tree. It like follows her everywhere and lives in her backpack. She cant find another of the trees and it kills one of her pet chickens but putting a nail through its throat. She screams when she finds it and the dad isnt suspicious he just thinks the chicken did it itself.
Thats all i remember. I think it mightv'e been Australian. PLEASE help i need to know what this book is its killing me! lol
