what was the source of the simpson episode with the point of views?

the episode showed the point of views of each character throughout the day and how each character interacted with each other throughout... the title was "trilogy of errors" and the working title was "go simpsons go". it was a really good episode but i know that it's not the first time the style has been used... I was just wondering where the style originated from because i've seen one other time before and it's honestly my favorite style of story line, and i like to know more about the things i like..
