What was 'THE' show of your generation?

I find it funny that the reason it was on the network in the first place, due to Saban taking over Fox Kids, is supposedly the same reason it wasn't more popular. It really did have no chance.
 
Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Transformers, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and the Gundams they showed on Toonami in the 90s. When I was a kid, I actually went to my parents and said "I want to make cartoons" when I was done seeing those shows. :anime:
 
I'm going on 31 this Spring. This is a tricky question because how woud you determine what "your" generation is? My toon days date back to the beginning of Transformers (G1). I would say that TF (G1) was the penultimate show of my elementary years. My middle school years were dominted by TMNT. My high school years belonged to Batman: The Animated Series (honorable mention to Gargoyles).

if you want the most truthful answer, people of my generation would most likely say The Simpsons, as we were raised on the Simpsons before most of you were even seeds. That program has endured for nearly two decades. Can't dispute that kind of staying power.
 
How is Birdman a Jonny Quest knockoff? JQ was more about mysteries and mysterious organizations (i never was a fan so im going by a very vague idea) while Birdman was straight up superhero antics. And Josie and the Pussycats was around (in comic form) before scooby doo was IIRC and i dont remember scooby and the gang singing songs. If anything was a scooby knockoff it was goober and the ghost chasers.
 
I think many of you have the question figured out wrong. He's not asking what was your favorite show way back when, but what was the most popular show overall. Even though I wasn't into it fully, Pokemon was the show of my generation, hands down. I remember collecting the cards like crazy. Sure, I watched the show every now and then, and I dragged my grandmother to see the movie (which, thanks to the Nostalgia Critic, I can remember how awful it was)...but MAN! That was crazy insane back then. Kinda funny, because I remember as a nostalgic joke, just before graduation in high school, we played the Pokemon trading card game in choir class. That's exactly when I figured out what was the show of our generation.

Either that or Rugrats. Still remember seeing the movie, and being excited to see it. But, yeah, Pokemon all the way...
 
For me, I gotta say BATMAN: TAS. Everything else paled in comparison. Gargoyles was close, though, but Batman was the one that changed me first.
 
I was born in 1972, but the 80's ruled my ass!

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the Incredible Hulk, along with Thundarr, Plastic Man, Mister T, Centurions, and MASK ruled the first part of the 80's. Don't forget He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, Kidd Video and the Smurfs as well.

G.I. Joe and Transformers rocked hard towards the mid 80's, but, for me, didn't go into overdrive until Jem and the Holograms showed up in 85/86 to form Sunbow's Holy Trinity which was for me, on the same channel, WPIX 11 in New York. Now, if Inhumanoids would've gotten another season, Sunbow/Marvel would've had a four-way threat for a while.

The late 80's was another story altogether, Visionaries, Bionic Six, Silverhawks, TigerSharks, The Karate Kid, Punky Brewster, Beverly Hills Teens, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the longest running series to go into the 90's), the Disney Afternoon (with Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles), Dinosaucers, Galaxy Rangers, Robotech, Spiral Zone and for some strange reason, Ulysses 31 and Lady LovelyLocks and the PixieTales!?!?!

Man, the 80's Rocked Hard!
 
It was Pokemon. I collected the cards and the toys. Everybody in my class was playing Pokemon. But I also think Digimon and Beyblade were also pretty big shows. Teletoon was at the top of their popularity when they aired all those crappy commercial anime that we loved. :anime:

I was born in 1981, so there's nearly fifteen years worth.

"Gargoyles" may have been my personal favorite, but if I had to pick generation, I'd say "Batman the Animated Series".
