What was the purpose of Selections Labour camps (WW2)?

Hello! Right now at school, we're studying World War 2, and the topic of focus Labour Camps and Concentration Camps.... I was wondering if anybody can explain to me why Selections were carried out in camps (in sufficient detail).... Separating sick from the poor? Making space for other people coming into the camp? I'm NOT talking about role-calls here.
