What was the old Nickelodeon(possibly nick jr.) action cartoon with a kid and dog on

adventures? It was a cartoon on during the in the late 90's and i and it had a surprising amount of violence and guns and stuff. There was a blonde haired kid and I think he had a dog and the was all kind of action an adventure. Ive been trying to figure out what it was called forever.
