The Nile river.
People settled near it instead of living in the desert surrounding it.

They learned to plant, observed the stars, formed a calendar, started to write, formed armies, heads of state, governments, religion, art developed, preservation of bodies, invented tools etc.

All this cause they settled near the Nile that provided them with water and fertile land.
