What was the fruit in the garden of eden?

Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Trees are people(Mark 8:24), this one was Satan the tree of good and evil.

Do you mean the forbidden fruit?
That would be the Apple, the Apple has a special significance to the Pagans, especially the Goddess worship, because, when you cut it cross ways you can see the 5 point star in the center, which stands for Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.
It is a metaphor for female knowledge as the Goddess religions were mostly matriarchal.

More to the point what did she do with the snake, I have a theory that real estate salesmen are a result of that coupling , or perhaps politicions

A quince.
Evidently it's similar to an apple. Most scholars believe it to be the fruit from the tree of life in the Bible. It's even a question asked in the jeapordy sequence of the movie "White Men Can't Jump". How's that for a source?

If it was mentioned by a talking snake, it must have been the fruit of the sassafrasss tree.

Edit:
It's a tree fruit. Slices of quince are what the Owl and the Pussycat ate with a runcible spoon, along with mince. It's quince, whose name in Portuguese is mermelo, that was the original basis of marmalade.
