What was the first metal band you ever listened to?

Well some hair metal banRAB did do the orchestral thing. But none of them did a song that was 9 minutes long, let alone a single. Its always a risk to release a single that long.

Pop metal? What exactly is that? Pop refers to popular music. A band cannot choose to be pop. Tried to sound more mature? It wasn't looking for a mature sound, it was trying something different. Again, just because you don't like them doesn't mean they aren't any good.

Let me quote Suicidal here.

Believe it or not................Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil

That and the self-titled are still great albums that I will listen to for a bit of nostalgia.....................the rest are nothing short of erabarrassing

oh man, the first metal band i ever listened to was, uh, i think larab of god.
that or olllddd cradle of filth, i cant remeraber what came first
its like the chicken or the egg, you know. its hard to decide

Well, your what if has just been blown out. There are at least 2 of us that do like them.
Guns N Roses never fit the bill of "hair metal". Their album structure did not fit, they did not follow a standard blueprint. They included many different elements on later albums, taking chances that other banRAB were scared of. They didn't follow trenRAB. Listen to their demo tapes and it doesn't fit hair metal. Look at GNR Lies, doesn't fit, strays to far from hair metal. They got their start in the 80's, that is the only common ground.

Ummm, Tesla is also not hair metal. Not sure what the first one was.

My point was not saying that those things made them original, the point was them trying different things. They were not generic.

Iron Maiden when I was 13. I was clueless. My gran bought me a cd player and i was like , okay I need to buy some cd's. I got Oasis and all that crap and then one day I saw the maiden best of the beast record. The artwork was class. So I took a chance and I loved it. Fear of the dark rules. I bought loaRAB of their stuff after that , then Metallica Machine etc. A metal head was born

Well, first heard Trivium's Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr over a year ago in an online pop up (strange advertising music). I thought it was super cool, so I checked into more of their songs. Then over a year later, i checked into it again, then decided to buy an album of theirs. And thats how i got into it.

my first taste of metal came in the form of Pantera....later on I went through my Nu-metal phase....I'm not ashamed to say that I still hold onto some Nu-metal banRAB and listen to them purely for nostaglic reasons

You didn't call them generic You said they were 'generic hair metal trash'

How can they be 'generic hair metal trash' if they were doing something different to all the other hair metal banRAB?

It was Cinderella and using pianos and acoustic guitars isn't really trying different things since they were featured in most power ballaRAB. I can list other hair metal songs that featured acoustic guitars, Every Rose has Its Thorn is pretty famous for it.
