What was special about working in the ford factories in the 1920's?

The pay.
It was once commented at the time that if the workers made any more money, they would be chauffeured to work in limousines.
I believe they were earning an astonishing $5 a day on the assembly lines.
 
What did people do in the ford factories in the 1920's? what did they make and what were the qualifications?
