What was (or is) the best cartoon block?

With the end of Kids WB near us I'm curious to see where you guys rank Kids WB in addition to what you guys consider the best tv cartoon block.

Me?

Well, I think I'll always have a soft spot for the early to mid `90s Fox Kids.

I voted for Cartoon Network during the 1990s, but in all honesty it's hard for me to narrow it down to just one block. I have fond memories of the "Moltar Era" of Toonami, as well as the Superchunk block that aired every Saturday.

Which is why I made it multiple choice. Like I said before, I'll always have a soft spot for Fox Kids (1990-1997), but I can't deny that there was also some other great blocks.

For starters, you have ABC, CBS, and NBC from 1950s to 1980s. Even though those are before my time just the fact that most of the classic tv cartoons aired on those three networks. So you can just imagine the amazing blocks they may have had during those decades.

Then, you have Disney Afternoon which was a personal favorite of mine during the early `90s. And TNT/TBS will always be special to me cause I discovered Looney Tunes, MGM, and Hanna-Barbera through them. And `90s Nick, Disney, CN were incredible. And early Kids WB was great as well. So, yea, its tough to choose.

I always had a soft spot for the Network blocks of the late 80's/early 90's. Between ABC/NBC/CBS we got The Smurfs, The Real Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, Pound Puppies, ALF, The Mask, and many many many other classic cartoons that set the standard for children's programming.

I also voted for 'Other', which for me, is the USA NETWORK CARTOON EXPRESS. This was Cartoon Network in bite sized form, and offered virtually any and every Hanna Barbera show on it's block at least briefly, not to mention G.I. Joe, TMNT, The Real Ghostbusters, He-Man, Might Max, Gargoyles, and others over it's run.

The USA CARTOON EXPRESS was what Cartoon Network aspired to be, but never did live up to IMO.

I just had to put 90's CN as one of the best. All because of two blocks: CCF and Toonami (Sailor Moon!!!). Oh, and Superchunk!

My other best is...KidsWB. Only, it's really hard to name a specific era; it was great during its entire run. I'm really fond of its mid to late 90's (the Steven Speilberg years). Then again, as long as my favorite current WB shows are on, I guess I'm pretty fond of these recent years as well.

I think I need to create a thread asking people how old they are. ;) I can't believe Gryph and I are the only ones who have voted for Fox Kids. Batman TAS, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, X-Men TAS, Spider-Man, Bobby's World, Life with Louie, etc. Classics, man.

The thing about Fox Kids is that you just had to be there. I think that nowdays when you look at their classic line-up it is associated with other companies. Batman, Tiny Toons, and Animaniacs is associated with WB. Power Rangers is associated with Saban/Disney. X-Men and Spider-Man is associated with Marvel/Disney. But people who were around back then are always gonna associate those shows with Fox Kids because thats where you saw them.

True, very true. And you know, I grew up with those shows, and I remember that I enjoyed them alot, you know? Man, do I feel old.

I was there for Fox Kid's early years. Let's not forget their initial first year shows (before they dominated weekdays). Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was one of Fox Kid's best offerings, and a strong start to what would become a great lineup over time.

Man, there was NOTHING like seeing Batman: TAS, Animaniacs, Beetlejuice, and Power Rangers first run. They'd even aquired older shows like The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse & George of the Jungle for brief runs.

I remember the custom pre-credits intros they had for their shows, Beetljuice morphing into the 'X' in the Fox Kid's logo, or one of the Killer Tomatoes bursting through it.

Then there were the 't.v. screens' intros (Everybody knows it's on FOX!) that were always my personal favorite of the Fox Kid's days.

For me I'll always have fond memories of the Saturday morning programming that ABC, NBC and CBS showcased from the mid 80's to the early 90's. Of course I was heavily into FOX Kids from late 1992 to about 1998. Then of course there was the various syndicated blocks such as The Disney Afternoon, The USA Cartoon Express and The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. And also the early to mid 90's offerings on Nickelodeon as well as the early days of Cartoon Network.

Good times man.

The entire Fox Kids era will always be my favorite. They always had the best look and the best promos. They even had the best shows; Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, The Tick, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Transformers: Robots In Disguise, Tiny Toons, Digimon, and whole bunch of others.

Fox Kids is also the only one with slogans I remember like; "Fox Kids rocks kids!", "Take The Ride!", "Everyone knows it's on FOX!". I even remember when they use to announce the ratings of the show before it started like; "Spider-Man is rated "Y", because it's webslinging fun for all Fox Kids!"

Anyone remember the Fox Kids magazine?

I remember when Fox Kids always use to preview their Fall line up on FOX Sunday nights 2 weeks before the new line up would begin. Yes, good times, good times. 4Kids even tried continuing the tradition with the FoxBox but, sadly they only did it twice. "The Fight For the FoxBox" was pretty cool though.

Fox Kids truly did rock, why did it have to leave?... :(
