What types of fish can I catch in the Santa Monica sea region in Los Angeles?

Say I have a sailboat and I want to catch Tuna or Salmon. How far would I have to go out into the sea from santa monica, and catch them?

If very far to catch those particular fish, what can be caught in the everyday sailing radius?

the only fish most people catch are albacore, abalone and some species of bottom feeding rock cod. most is safe to ingest but you have to be weary of any area that is more polluted than your average cesspool. you have to go about a mile off shore for any decent fishing but there are people that fish off the pier or along the coast
If you catch a salmon it would almost be a first. they tend to migrate closer to the pacific northwest to alaska

and yes catching a shark is still worth 5 points

Look on the California Fish & Game website. It tells you all the rules and regulations about fishing here and what kind of licenses you will need. It also has the different kind of fish.
