i am going to be doing a project with one of these later this month

and i want to paint the lid flat black and then some how affix or etch a design onto it.
what i want to know is:
what kind of paint is good to go on plastic and how may i affix a detailed design onto it?
for putting the design on it i was thinking something along the lines of those iron on tee-shirt designs (but of course print my own onto the paper)
or would it be easier to create stencils and use some form of spray on paint to create the design?
also keep in mind that this will be kicked around, dropped, rained on, rubbed up against, etc so all paint and graphics needs to be durable.
some of the things i want to affix to the plastic range from simple text to simple logos to more complicated graphics like this

what i really want to know is how may i affix designs and logos onto it that are durable and wont rub off. i thought of printing them onto stickers and then attaching them, but i think they would wear off to quickly.
