What type of paint should I use to paint a bicycle?

My daughter wants a pink BMX. I can get one from Asda for £50 but it's not pink, so I am thinking of painting it. Has anyone painted a bike before? What sort of paint should I use, and where can I buy it?

Hammerite.
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Don't know if it comes in pink though?

Basically you want metal paint in a tin and not spraypaint (even though that is technically right) because the spraypaint will flake off even if you prepare and prime the bike.

hammerite (or similar) will never come off and you can get a nice finish if you use the right brush. You also won't need to dismantle the bike, just take off wheels and use plastic bags to cover the pedals and bars (derailleur?).

Also make sure the brakes work afterwards because the dry paint can clog the cables and the callipers.

PS If youre going to paint it then why not get a second hand bike? Shame to ruin a brand new paint job. Are you sure you can't find a pink bike?

well strip all the parts of it handle bars wheels crank ect and put them to one side dont forget what order the barings go in the handle bars then get some fine sand paper and sand the fram for extra grip then spray it with primer and wait for it to dry then spray the spray paint on dont stay in one spot keep moveing and do thin cotes to sbout 4 2 cans of spray should so it len the coat dry before putting another one on if you do a coat to thick i think it can crack off then whan its done spray it with car lacker it makes it shiny and protects the paint you will be able to buy it from any car shop same with the primer
