What type of dance class should I take?

This year, I am planning on taking dance class for fun and to help supplement my competitive running. What type should I take? I am too tall to be a ballerina, so nothing with a lot of ballet technique. I am flexible, but not super flexible. I've asked people and they all suggest hip-hop, but I am not really interested in that. Any other ideas?

Well, just to go out on a different path, how about Salsa. It's got lots of cardio and it's fun. The you get to dance with different people and I've danced with people from under 5' to over 6' so your height shouldn't matter.

Well, the first class I ever took (not including my kindergarten classes) was Jazz. It is a great place to start. And though it is somewhat like hip hop, it is also nothing like hip hop. It is a lot of fun, great music goes along with it. And it's what got me started in dance. Now, this is my fifth year, and they have invited me to go en pointe! I'm so excited! Which is besides the point. Jazz is a great place to begin, ballet really helps make everything make sense! Once I started my ballet class, I seriously was like "ohhh! i get it now" So i would suggest taking that class, but since you are too tall (which i think is ridiculous! I am nearly 5 foot! I'm too short!) than i would do whatever you are most comfortable with.

I would take Jazz, it is one of the most popular styles. While having ballet experience would be helpful, you definitely don't need it. Jazz is also the most fun, and its easy to learn (especially since your a beginner, I assume). Good luck!

I take ballet and jazz, and to me, it's okay if you're tall to be a ballerina. But if you just don't want to, then you can do jazz, becuase it's pretty fun. I would still probably recommend ballet, though, because mainly every style of dance uses ballet techniques, including jazz. It really helps if you know your ballet techniques, but do whatever you want.

i would say you should do jazz because its upbeat and good cardio which helps a lot with running. ever since i started dance my mile time has gone down. jazz also isnt THAT hard. not that its easy but its easier have fun!

Hello,
In my opinion no one is too tall to be a ballerina. I am tall myself.
I would suggest either tap jazz or ballet (even though you don't really want to do ballet)
Hope this helps!
