I went to this party last week and it's full eith british. I tried to talk about general things but their responses were not good and I felt not welcomed. I'm a bit clueless in mingling, I know. Could you tell me what makes british people interested to talk about? British Ladies and Gentlemen, what makes you interested to talk with someone? I really appreciate your developing answers. Thank you!

Did you mention you're American if you are? Politics always tend to turns things sour real fast and there's no easier way to get people to develop preconceived notions about you than by identifying with your nationality.

Otherwise British people respond to the same things everyone does, it's just a matter of what type of group. Find some common ground, interests you both have and ask them questions and just converse.

If they're young British backpackers, they're generally interested in drugs, piss (alcohol) and casual sex.

If they seem they have interests beyond that...i dunno. Maybe these particular ones aren't very friendly.

My nan's a pom. General interests can include: politics and world current affairs (provided you are able to not take it personally if they passionately disagree with some things), talk fashion, music, art, and if you watch any Brittish telly, bring that up too. I dunno. But if they're half decent ppl, they will make an effort to get to know you.

Ask why they're here, what they're studying, where they work, tell them where the local cheap restaurants are or something.
