What to expect???

Hello all,

I currently own a 05 R1. I'm seriously cunsidering getting a 1098s. the only Ducati I've ever rode was a 900 super sport in 2001. The only thing i remember about it was that it handled better than the 95 gixxer 750 that I owned at the time, and that it sound fantastic with term exhaust.

So my question is what should I expect as I have only rode and owned the Jap brands. From 550 to 1000cc. I must admit my R1 is the best bike I've rode to date. but I do believe the Duc will be a blast to ride as well, minus the top speed!

Thanks for your feed back! Hopefully soon to join the Ducati Family

Re - what to expect:

1) frustration at receiving so much envy and jealousy from the inline-4 fraternity, usually hidden behind lots of ludicrous claims that these bikes are totally unreliable and prone to breaking down..

2) your patience will be tested as you realise these bikes aren't as reliable as your R1

3) Anger and resentment that your Italian exotica costs twice as much in parts and service as your R1

4) A certain sense of self-satisfaction knowing that you've solved a problem, or modified an issue, all by yourself. The fulfilment of a 'job well done'.

5) a sense of pride, knowing that you've blown your savings on a timeless classic that fills your heart with joy every time you open the garage door.

6) unbridled love when you hear and feel a v-twin doing what it does best.

7) sheer ecstasy as you throw that Duc down towards the apex, Brembos defying the laws of physics, only to have it all overcome by the pulsating monstrous torque as you twist the throttle to launch out again.

In short, you will experience the full range of life's emotions; that fullness of all experiences that make up life's rich tapestry........the complete antithesis to boredom and monotony!

i finally got to watch Twist the Throttle last night. omg, do i ever love my bike.

we had our monthly ducati ride and pulled into a parking lot of bikes. ohhh d jealously. one guy was making d motion. all i could think was 'hater'. i even heard comments about a chic on a duc. what a .

man, if he only knew what its was like riding one.... he would want it. no feeling like being on a duc n hitting those turns.

it took me one ride on a duc, n that was it. i love turns, n she goes. she wants to dip into it. can't explain it. do a test ride.

LOL got to love these ausie. they sure do try

these guys were the fashion rider types, no gear + curb moneky w/ no gear. maybe they got a helmet. i'm sure they don't take chics riding bikes seriously. they prob treat chics in general like trash, so no skin off my back.

my boys know i can ride.

I feel like I get a little of the outcast thing when I pull up for a rest on a ride and there are a bunch of guys on jap bikes. I don't mind, but they normally just stare, then don't really acknowledge me. Not sure if it's jealousy or just the fact they are close minded and think their bike is #1.

I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

Useually a crowd gathers to compliment and check out my Ducati. I have'nt had any negative commets yet. At least to my face. They always want me to start her up and listen to the twin. I try not to hang out where the squid crowd hangs out. Maybe thats why I don't hear the trash talking.
