Hi,
A few years back (about 3) I ran in to some trouble with the law and was investigated for theft involving my workplace. I co-operated with the police to the best of my ability during their investigation. I didn't hear anything more about it for a few weeks.
During this time I moved to another place about 120KM away (same province), and when I did I call the police in the first city to let them know where I was and my new phone number and address etc,
Four months passed and I finally get a call from the police saying that they have issued a warrant for my arrest, They advised me to go to the local RCMP and turn myself in ETC. For whatever reason I put it off and eventually forgot about it (didn't go in to a town for several months due to work).
So now 3 years later I apply for a job, get it, get a record check done and its clean. My job is seasonal and so I was laid off for the winter. Rather than sit on EI I was offered a position at a school teaching basic computer skills. This job also required a record check. When I got this one done I recieved a phone call from the police.
The officer said I had a warrant and explained what it was for,, He said the reason it didn't come up on my first check is because they put the wrong date of birth on the warrant.
I have 2 questions:
Will I lose my seasonal job now that I apparently have a charge?
I habn't been to the police station yet (its been about 5 days since the call, and I don't want this looking worse than it is), how long will they hold me for? This is my first charge, I'm in my mid 20s
Thanks
