What to do?

Ok, about 18 months ago, I knew this kid through other mates but I'm wasn't friends with him, I found his Ipod in a hallway at school, didn't know it was his so I asked a few people including him if they had their Ipod's that day and they all said 'no' so I figure "meh, free ipod." anyhow the next day it turns out it was his but I have already changed everything so it barely even resembles his, so it's a bit late to give it back. So I just say it wasn't his and gave it to someone else.

Anyhow, a month or so later I started being really good mates with this kid, so I constantly feel guilty.

Lately one of my other 'friends' has been saying they are gonna tell the first kid that I stole his ipod. So I'm stuck pretending to be this persons friend so they don't tell my friend about the ipod... What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Oh yeah, I'm really not proud of any of that. I was a stupid kid and such, so yeah. Have a quick bitch at me for theiving then try and help. Haha... thanks guys.

Does he have another iPod already? If so, he probably couldn't care less.

Otherwise, possibly try to explain the situation to the person you gave it to, and maybe they'll let you have it back so you can give it back to the original owner.

By the way, though, how was it not his at first, but then turns out being his?

Just go ahead and tell the guy what happened, including the part where you asked around first, before modifying the iPod and giving it away.

Much better he hears it from you and knows that you are honest. The two of you can then figure out what to do if he wants it back. Sounds like a pretty simple series of unfortunate events.

;808188']If he brought it up, I'd say that a long time ago I found an iPod and thought that it was total paydirt. If you still have it, and he asks for it I'd say, "let me check with the guy I gave it to".

Word of advice for anyone who has expensive electronics: Write down the serial numbers. That way, you can prove it is yours if it gets stolen.

Now that you mention it, I should go grab my car CDplayer. I'm in process of working on my van, so the cd player is just sitting on the one captain seat, the windows are rolled down, the doghouse is off with no engine in front...I'm surprised it's still there!

Back on topic, actually Caffy's advice was better than mine.
