What to do with broken down car?

My car broke down a little while ago. I didn't have the money so it's rego has run out. The transmission is the problem, the spedo no longer works and (it's an auto) it doesn't change gears properly. What can I do with it? How can I make some money out of it? I don't want to get it fixed, because I was going to buy a new car. Is the wreckers the best option? It was a great little car before the transmission problems.

It's a 1987 Suzuki hatch.
