what to do when you have 1 hip higher than the other and 1 leg shorter than the other. I hurt all down my right side and my back spasms all the time to where i fall down and scream, the muscles tighten and wont come apart again. What is causing this to happen?

Hello Cheryl,

Welcome to the board. I am sorry you having problems and in so much pain. This may sound like a silly question, but how do you know one hip is higher/one leg shorter? The reason I ask is that sometimes there is a problem in the back that causes you to make these compensations. It makes it seem like one leg is shorter, but in reality it is caused by a muscle irabalance and a mechanical problem in the way you are aligning your body.

Some people do have a shorter leg, in which case you need to see a doctor, a physical therapist, maybe even a podiatrist who can make a lift for your shoe. Sometimes this is all it takes to correct the problem. Sometimes it is a very easy correction, so you owe it to yourself to ask some questions, locate the right person to help you, and see what is causing the problem.

If it is something more involved, you should be able to find this out, too, and maybe you will be given some type of oral medication to relax the muscles, and some physical therapy to assist in rebalancing your body. Possibly you could look into some alternative types of treatment such as a procedure called rolfing, depending on what turns out to be the issue.

I have an SI joint dysfunction and the Dr. or P/T can always tell if the joint is out of its socket by looking at my hips, when I lay on my back. If one is higher than the other, then the SI joint is out of its socket. As soon as it is popped back into place, the hips are the same size again. I have the exact same type of pains in my buttocks as well as in my lower back and down part of my leg.

hey, yeah i have been going to the chiropractor, he took x rays and sent them off to a specialist, thats how i know, and i also have a growth at the bottom of my spine, which h said looks like arthritis from it previously bring broken and something else. and one of the disks is damaged and showing a nerve. Any more help on my situation, i have had this problem since i was 16 and i am now 24, i hate being in this much pain, i just want a normal life and do normal things with my husband for once ya know.

Hi Cheryl. I understand what you are going through both in pain & emotionally. My back started causing me issue at age 18, when I had only been married just 5 months. I herniated a disc at L5/S1, which is still there today and Im almost 47 now. At 18, I had no insurance either and did not get proper medical care and I suffered a really long time with it. I was even told not to have children by an orthopaedic surgeon because he wasn't sure my spine would support the weight of carrying a child to term and might put me and the baby at risk. Pish! I am a tiny person, and my back was really messed up on/off for 15 years, but I had two children and raised them just fine.

I am not attempting to pry into your personal affairs here. I know the struggles of being young and trying to make it in the world has most do at some point in their lives. If you are paying for your doctor care now that is one thing, but if you are doing this through a clinic of some sort... Try and ask them to refer you to spine specialist as soon as possible. Had I gotten proper medical care back in the day, I may have not had to suffer with all that pain I endured. It's made me a tough person and given me a high threshold of pain, but it would have been much better on me and my body not to have endured it to begin with.

Do your best to get treated by a spine specialist. It's for your well being right now, and for your tomorrows. Best of luck. :)

hi thanks for your advice. u seem really nice, i am not payin anyone right now, im in bed right now, i managed to crawl in it last nite and get some sleep. My mum paid for me to see the chiropractor as a one off, to see what was goin on now i know most of it, its just getting the money and finding a spine specialist close by ya know, my husband just left a week ago as he got his cdl so hes on 6 wek training or more, then he gets somewhat regular hours, but most of the time he will be home weekenRAB, docs aint open then. I have no way of gettin to appointments now as im not allowed to drive in my condition.

thanks again,

If you really want to find out what the cause of your pain is, I would go to a spinal specialist, who will probably want a MRI. X-rays do not show all the soft tissues, etc...so you're only getting a partial idea of what is going on. If you've had the problem for 8 years and are in pain, I would look for a fellowship-trained spinal specialist, either an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon who spenRAB his time working on spinal and back cases only.

The longer you wait, the more chance you have of the damages accumulating as you age. You're probably putting more stress on certain ligaments or vertebra or discs...maybe causing arthritis from bones rubbing together, or ?? I have no way of knowing, and your chiropractor doesn't know for sure either as his training is limited.
