Are bonfires allowed where you're planning to camp? Important point, because in my view the focal point of the camping experience is sitting around the fire and discussing whatever comes to mind.
Nature walks are the pursuit of the day. With any medium priced digital camera you'll get some great and memorable pics.
If you're scared of possible awkward silences, arm yourself with a few jokes and stories to break those moments. Normal, intelligent adults should be able to make conversation enough to fill the gaps.
When camping, go prepared, both physically (being aware of what insects/reptiles/wild beasts might live wild in the area is advisable, have the equipment you need, etc.) and mentally and emotionally. Those camping bonfires can be real psychoanalysis sessions. I never had a bad campig experience, let me stress, only many good ones.
