Ranting? What can the ordinary user do about the endless stream of rants here on Yahoo Answers? I mean other than just clicking the Report Absue flag?

Take advantage of the free points. As long as they aren't abusive towards other members, its all ok.

I would not call a rant abuse. Some people need to have a rant. Other people like to read the rants. Then other people still go and report rants, why? If you don't like a particular rant then stop reading it and go on to something else. No need to inconvenience another human being just because you are intolerant to their question.

If you see posted stating a strong opinion, whether it's a question or an answer, you should report it. Ranting falls under the term violating the Q&A format, of which is a violation of the Community Guidelines. People who post junk like that would want some attention or just want the two points for their trouble.

There is nothing you may do about it except to report for RANTING. What I personally do is to never answer rants if we all did this then users would stop it.

A rant is a violation to the CG, it is listed among the causes for a CG Violation, thus it may be reported safely and without any further problems.

Bye

I can't say it better than Keith. If something that is *not* specifically directed to you upsets you, the problem is YOURS, not the poster's.

I absolutely refuse to report abuse anymore, or even to give a thumbs down, because I am an adult, and I don't need to run crying to the nannies at YA.

I am TRYING to learn to be more tolerant, because my life goes along a lot better if I am not constantly angry at trivial stuff that has nothing to do with me.

I wish they'd do away with the thumbs and the flags. Most people here are capable of settling their differences, if Yahoo would only trust them enough to do that instead of taking it out of members' hands.

Oops, I think that may have been a rant.
