So, I will try to keep this short.
Last year I did track and I did long and triple jump. We don't have a jumping coach, so I had to run with the sprinters and practice jumps maybe a few times a week, usually going after practice. I hated sprinting but loved jumping. Sprinting gave me terrible shin pain on the bone on my inner shin. I hated it. And I sucked at it to; 32 sec 200s and 15 sec 100s.
This year I joined cross country for the first time and I love it. I started out running low 24s and now I'm running high 21s low 22s. I am on varsity and I get to run at state! I never thought I would be this good. But, now that its coming to an end, I don't know how to keep improving.
I will be doing basketball starting next week and will run a turkey trot 5k for fun with my friends. I really want to train hard and try to break 20 next cross country season, make varsity again, and make it on the record board at my school.
I love jumping and distance running, they just don't go hand in hand. They don't benefit each other. And I really want to improve my jumps and go state for it senior year. Also make it on the record board for that.
Ok,so what should I do? Train with the sprinters, grin and bear it through the pain, and jump as much as possible? Do long distance some days while also jumping and ask to run the mile, 800m, long and triple jump? Or just forget about jumping and do long distance. Or ask my coach to find a jumping coach and have the jumpers train together, away from sprinters? Help! Thanks!
