Sooo im spending at the most 2000 dollars because I live in a place that the likely hood of me getting hit is rather up there, this will be my first bike.

I only want a sports bike type, any suggestions at what to look for? Year model ect ect.. So far I have looked at kawasaki 250's and they seem like a good deal, especially if you catch one on ebay lol. Anyway any thoughts help

Well when shopping for sport bikes, anything under $3000 will usually be junk, stolen, or very problematic.

You need at least $3k to get anything worth having.

I'd recommend you take the MSF course nearest to you, save up a little more money, then look to get a Suzuki GS500F.

Same great "learner" dynamics but has enough power to be a keeper once your skills improve.

You can easily get a used 250 sportsbike around 2000, and as far as performance the ninja 250 is the best 250 out there, they've engineered the engine to get great power out of those 250cc's. I've seen Ninja 250's as new as '05 sell under 2grand and older models back to the mid '90s will be cheaper and about as good. Another great thing is that these will hold value well and when/if you decide to move up it'll sell close to what you bought it for if you keep it in good shape.
Check local classifieds and be careful on ebay. Don't commit to buy anything until you've test-driven it and are sure it's in good fully running condition.
