What to bring to Boot Camp / Basic Training?

I see all these recommendations of what to bring to boot camp posted in forums online, however I have recently been told that you are not to bring anything but yourself and your wallet. everything else will only be shipped back home if you try to take it (proven when my sister's fiance's belongings showed up on our doorstep in a big brown box. shoes, paper, pencils .. everything) . Is this correct?
 
I assume USMC boot camp ? If so you bring what you are wearing and stuff in your wallet, they will tell you what to put in your wallet.

They give you back the boxed up crap after boot camp.

Other than that don't bring anything.. A comb will bring big laughs from the processing NCO's
