The best thing to do is to choose something that has meaning to you. Something that you enjoy or are curious about or that is important to you. It could be something physical (an exploration of texture, form, complexity of plant roots done in b/w photography), a social issue (impressions in an artistic medium of the impact of teen suicide on a high school population), historical (how women have been depicted in art through the centuries - draw/paint examples for the different times in history), and on and on. Just make it personal to you and you'll find that once you begin the project, your excitement for it will lead you on more and more paths to investigate.
