...to another universe? The book was about a teen or pre-teen boy who, along with his younger brother and sister, spends the summer at his aunt's house. In an unused upstairs room, the boy finds a closet that leads to a portal into another universe, where he befriends another boy and the boy's family. He ends up spending a lot of time in the upstairs closet, neglecting his younger brother, who's tempted to join a gang. He occasionally gets letters from his mother. Closet Boy keeps inviting him to stay with him and his family. At the end, the boy returns to the closet and finds the portal is gone, and the only things in the closet are a science (astronomy?) book and some other things. Did he imagine the adventures he had over the summer, or did the portal just vanish?
