tell me your opinion.

here's my opinion:
..i don't like ppl telling me i should preserve my indian culture...the truth is..there is no culture. all the entertainment (e.g. music, bhajans etc.) can only be performed by certain castes...so it's not like in the west where just about anyone can participate proudly in 'their culture'. and what about indian muslims and sikhs and jains etc...aren't they counted as indians?!
Ashim: caste system is gone? have you heard about reservations? have you ever set foot in the village? have you ever visited a matrimonial site?
have you noticed how the cricket team has consistently been dominated by a certain caste?

and yeh...i do have the right to voice my opinion thank you very much. isn't that how changes are made? allowing others to speak or express themselves is true democracy.

There is no such thing as 'Indian culture' outside the narrow imaginings of certain Hindu political parties.

India is a country composed of hundreds of different races and cultures.

Just be yourself, enjoy life and recognize your heritage as part of who you are but there is no need for a person to flaunt it or center their lives around it I think that is foolish. I see people that dress like their in Africa or India that where born in the USA and have no more of a clue what those countries are like than the Man in the moon but they think they are making a stand or something. Live life to it's fullest without trying to conform to what someone else thinks you should be and be what God intended you to be. Happy New Year.

ive lived in india 4 9 mnths and all ive seen was indian coulture.
so how can u say there is none?
idk about jains and muslims and hindus and budhist and all that .
im sure some of them are counted as indians.
my friend shravya is.

If you have a good understanding but a lack of interest in your culture, then don't bother keeping the "culture" alive at your house. Do whatever is right for you.

Ummm... ya. Listen. I'm Indian too! The Caste system is pretty much GONE in India. I don't know where you are from but its not right to slander you culture on the web like that. Culture can be counted as not just music, but food, Religion, Language, Clothes, Education, and all of that. You have to take pride in India. I'm not going to say anything about religion because it might offend somebody. But there are SO many languages to choose from, and I think that's SO COOL that India is one of the oldest and most populated countries in the world. Okay, so we might not be one of the richest countries in the world, but at least we're one of the smartest! India has made so many great achievements in the Educational Department. Every one of my american friends would die for some Indian food, and they would think I was a total Angel for bringing them Indian Clothes.

So stand up for you culture man! Your Indian! Be proud!
