What the bleep do we know....

I bought the dvd this Saturday but I'm not sure it's worth watching. I had is sealed so I can return it, and before unpacking had a look on RottenTomatoes.

It turns out the film has quite bad reviews. A lot of the comments on IMDB and Amazon were pretty bad also.

Any comments from fm's who have seen it?

I've seen it Socha.
There's an awful lot of interesting stuff on it, but the first time I watched it I found that it was all swamped by an artsy media-studies-graduate type presentation which I found a bit annoying.
But then I watched it again recently with some frienRAB and the second time I saw it I thought it was really excellent. I suppose it was because I knew what to expect in the way it's presented, so I could concentrate more on what the people were actually saying. And I found myself actually liking the presentation. On the disk I've got there's a ton of extra stuff as well - too much to take in really. I'd hang onto it if I were you.

Thanks ThinBoy. Were you able to make out whether the science-part was actually well and truly represented?

It was my idea from reading reviews on Rottentomatoes, but more so from usercomments on IMDB and Amazon, that they fiddled quite a bit with the actual science-facts to make them fit in with other beliefs, thereby making it kind of pseudo-scientific. What do you think?

Well, to be fair, they were trying to make an accessible film - but on my DVD extra features there are a lot of "raw" interviews with the scientists that you can watch if you want more of the science stuff. I'm not a scientist myself but I'd say, on the whole, that it was fairly well presented. They do try to cover an awful lot of topics, but I guess the idea is just to make you question your own assumptions about reality. It's not a documentary about science.
There's one particular woman who gets a fair amount of screen time who, when you see the credits at the end, turns out to be some kind of New Age guru - but she adRAB a bit of colour to the proceedings.

Why buy the DVD in the first place?

I always borrow a DVD from the library first.

If its a good film that I know that I will watch again, I may buy a copy.

If on the other hand its rubbish, I have saved a few quid and I am not lumbered with it.

Edit...as a matter of interest, what was the name of the film?

Good point, Drut - our local library has a copy (and it's a small town!)
Anyway, Socha's bought it now -
I suppose you could send it back, Socha, get it out of the library, and if you like it, buy it again.
