Now I know that the British held little bits of territory at the end of the war
but I also understand the Americans held Western Ontario??
They got this from the Detroit Frontier War
which was initially a massive failure (because no one knew about the war when the British attacked)
and the British occupied almost all of the Detroit Frontier after the capture of Fort Detroit
however after that the Americans were able to defeat the British in numerous battles including Thames
which through this they reacquired the Detroit Frontier
and also held Western Ontario
Where do people get the claim Americans held no land in Canada at the end of the war
its the main reason why the British did not continue they demands for the territory
also another reason why the Duke of Wellington did not take the job to command forces in Canada
USA Won the War of 1812
get over it!!!
if you want to debate about it

PS the Annexation of Canada was never an objective you twits
I have come to notice that this website is mostly lead by people with no historical background, not to mention people who are more likely to believe fiction...
for example Americans who believe the American Revolutionary War was just fought by Americans against British (when the French helped alot)
it is clear the community knows very little history
a few interesting facts about the War of 1812
Americans won over 60% of the land battles
Americans won the majority of the naval engagements
Americans inflicted more casualties on the British/Canadians/Indian forces then suffered
Other interesting details
all American objective in the War of 1812 were completed
During the war the British ended Impressment and also all trade restrictions
after the War the British no longer armed Indians and never interfered with American expansion west
which were the causes of the war!
Also I notice that alot of answers on this website go straight from
Well the Brits won at Queenston Heights and then Burned down the White House
complete avoiding any sort of American victory
pure Anti-American bs
lets just forget about the massive American invasion victories (Chippawa, York, Thames, Fort Erie, Frenchman's Creek)
Actually the Americans won more land battles in Canada than the British did
American Victories in Canada - Capture of Fort Erie, Siege of Fort Erie, Elizabethtown, Port Dover, Gananoque, York, Chippawa, Malcolm’s Mills, Longwoods, Frenchman's Creek, Fort George and Thames
British Victories in Canada - Chateauguay, First and Second Battle of Lacolle Mills, Beaver Dams, Crysler's Farm, Queenston Heights, Stoney Creek and Cook's Mills
Bill I notice you have failed to notice that 1. Buffalo was a retaliation for the American victory at Newark
and also all lost territory in Detroit Frontier was recovered by the Americans, which lead to the invasion of Western Ontario (and the capture of it through the Battle of Thames)
Burning of White House??
was in retaliation of the Burning of York (Toronto)
except the British meant no resistance and left after 1 day (Americans defeated the British military in York and left after 1 week)
the main reason for the British leaving was the their failure at Baltimore (no supplies could reach them)
also the "utter" defeat of Americans in Canada
was not an "utter" defeat
the Americans were able to acquire Western Ontario thus ending the Indian raids and British raid on the Detroit Frontier (Thus achieving a basic war goal)
Western Ontario was given back to the British through the Treaty of Ghent
the British ended Impressment 2 days before the war started
50 days before the word would reach the USA
what do you think they had in 1812... internet?
the British invasions of the USA however were nearly completely utter failures (DC being the only highlight)
Having been chased out of Canada, the Americans also surrendered Detroit, Buffalo, and Fort Dearborn (Chicago). And we won't mention Washington. No point rubbing it in.
LOL
this must be why the Americans were conducting battles in Canada after each of these battles???
Jackson occupied territory in Spanish Florida and, despite Spanish protests after the war, refused to give it up.
------------mhmmm??? THIS was not talkd about in the Treaty of Ghent.. as you would say
.. especialyl considering the British were also defending the territory (along with 500 Spanish)
Thomas Jefferson to President Madison in early 1812 (so before war was declared):
"The acquisition of Canada this year will be a mere matter of marching, and will give us the experience for the attack on Halifax, the next and final expulsion of England from the American contininent."
--------------How does this qoute "prove" Americans wanted to Annex Canada?
-fairly conclusive evidence that the major war aim of the USA was to invade and annex Canada.
------------ In accurate where did it say in the Declaration of war that Annexing Canada was an objective?? did the President claim it was?? no
Casualties:
US - 2,260 KIA, 4505 WIA, approx 13,000 died from disease.
British/Canadian - 1600 KIA, 3
If,as you claim, the US was doing so well, why did New England stage the Hartford Convention and seriously consider seceding and allying with the British? And why did Madison ask for peace talks?
---------------- New England along with other states were demanding to leave the union well before the war... THE Union was not even 1 entity.. it was a collection of states that acted independently.. THE main reason for the talks was because 1. most supported the British anyways and 2. They were hit hard by British blockas
madison did not ask for talks
the british came to the table first Nov 4 1813
