What supplies would you need if you wanted to build furniture?

I know someone who wants to start making furniture, just as a hobby. What kinds of tools, at minimum, would they need to get started? Their first project might be a small end table or chair...nothing too major at first! They have a lot of tools at their house already, but the person I'm thinking of is left-handed, so they have said they have trouble using the table saw, etc. Thanks for your ideas!
