What Sonic cartoon did you like?

Okay before we had the crappy anime Sonic-x there were 3 series of Sonic that were made back in the 90's. One of them was "Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog", which if I can recall correctly a good series. Milton Knight worked on the show but I remember one thing about this show was that it was rather funny.

The second series of sonic instead of being rather comical it was more serious.{Often called Sonic: Satam} But however it was more serious, the only thing I could remember about this series was my own mother wouldn't allow me to watch it . But it did end with a cliffhanger and I read somewhere on the internet a storyboard artist was interested in bringing back the show.

And finally there was the third series, which was Underground. So which sonic cartoon did you like out of all of them? I personally like Satam.

All of them, but thats probably because ive been a fan of ol blue since i was 4. So most of my life, My Fav is obviously SATAM then SX &AOSTH tie for 2nd & SU is my least favriote.

But overall I enjoy all the sonic toons & will enjoy what ever the animation industry has in store for him in the future, be it a new TV show or a Series of DTV movies.:anime::sweat:

(BUT IMO, Nothin beats the Comic!)

I loved the first 26 episodes of Sonic X best, but I never got to see the rest of them.

Back in the day, I loved AOSTH, since it felt so close to how I wanted Sonic to be. No, I don't mean the Loony Tunes humor, I mean traveling all over the planet, with Eggman as a recurring threat with all sorts of harebrained schemes involving robots.

I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but I actually hated SATAM. For one thing, they pushed Tails to the sidelines and gave Excuse Me Princess Sally the spotlight, no to mention weakening Sonic to the point where he couldn't fight off a single robot himself. It basically stripped everything I liked about Sonic out of the picture.

Though I'd have probably loved it if Sonic weren't involved at all.

I also liked the Sonic OVA, albiet not until I got to see it subtitled (this is one of the only dubs I refuse to watch). It's just one excuse after another to have Sonic and Tails plow through crazy action scenes, but it was kinda awesome because of that. And the ending theme was pretty cool, too.

And I never saw Underground. Frankly, the sight of the character designs put off of that one for good.

AoStH, being on the most back in the day, was my fave Sonic show. The show gets a lot of flack for being silly, but I don't think it's nearly as silly as everyone makes it out to be.

SatAM was a fun show, and still holds up well today.

Underground was an interesting twist on the SatAM storyline. I loved the characterizations of Sonic and his siblings. It's just a shame the plot ended up not going anywhere.

Sonic X was fairly mediocre to me. If SEGA's idea of a fun Sonic show consists of Sonic lazing around all day, then saving a helpless whiny boy at the end of half the episodes, count me out. The only good episodes were the Sonic Adventure/2 adaptation eps, and that's only because they were based on the games.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, because Dr. Robotnik is utterly hilarious in that show, and the silly antics just get me everytime.

The Saturday morning version tried too hard to be grimdark, and Underground is a terrible gimmick show.

Sonic X was alright for a couple viewings, but overall, it's a forgettable modernization.

As a huge Sonic fan I like them all. :D
The Japanese Sonic X is the best because game adaptions and Live and Learn in it take the cake, however the dub placed next to the original is crap. AoSth came first and remains a favorite of mine what with all the slapstick. SatAM was more serious and as a fan of the comics, I appreciate that series a lot too. Sonic Underground's alright also but it just took me some getting used to. They're all pretty different shows but all pretty good as well.

Wow. Surprised to see AoStH getting some appreciation now. I remember when it was always "SatAM! SatAM! SatAM! SatAM! ALL THE REST ARE WRONG!!!"

Truthfully, I appreciated both Adventures and Sonic SatAM equally, but for different reasons. I also enjoyed Sonic X. I never watched Sonic Underground. It just didn't strike me.

My favorite thing when I was a kid was trying to figure out how Sonic was in two shows of different plots!

Anyways I liked all the series, including Underground. It's just that with X and Underground there should've been more:

Underground didn't have Tails or Sally or Bunnie, so I was somewhat put off, and then Sonic was held down by family and didn't seem as cool as SatAM Sonic. (Must've been the singing/guitar playing.)

And X I feel would've been enjoyed better if it was based in Sonic's Universe, and not Earth. At least Sonic felt more like a free spirit, though I hated the voice actor. (Where was Jaleel White?)

I agree with you on X, Gil.

Frankly, my dream Sonic series would have the basic setup of AOSTH with the visual style of Sonic X, with Sonic traveling His World (where life is strong!), meeting both classic characters, as well as maybe a few recurring ones just for the show (but not in center stage), and Eggman would be a comic villain who's nonetheless dangerous when given enough robots and a crazy enough plan.

And if they just had to make a kid the perspective character, it would be Tails, but Sonic would still be the star.

I think that they've all got their pluses and minuses. Not so hot on Sonic X save for the slicker art style, but each has a distinctly different "tone" and they all work to an extent. AoStH was wacky and cartoony, and it had the best VA for Robotnik (PINGAS!); SatAM had my favorite character, Sally Acorn, and a slightly darker tone; Underground had an interesting alternate-universe feel to it; and X seems to work well with its animesque tone.

Speaking of which, was I the only one who was delighted to hear how much Sonic Adventure's VA for Eggman sounded like the one from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog?

A shame we lost both of them back in 2005. :crying:

Following the Adventure art style, the anime used the VA from the games as well. The same was supposed to happen with the dub but 4Kids refused to let Ryan Drummond do it cause he didn't live in NY even though he offered to move, forever altering the VAs for the games to the 4Kids cast for continuity.
And Ryan is much more tolerable than the 4Kids guy.

My ideal Sonic show has the animation of Sonic X, the characterization of SatAM, the humor of AoStH, and the action of the Sonic OVA.

Yep. That would be a near-perfect Sonic show in my book.

Sonic Underground. Rebel group tries to assassinate tyrannical madman? Set in a decently developed dystopian world? Characters you can care about? This show was preety good.

Except for all the musical moments. It would have been a far better show without those.

Although I did grow up on ASTH, it was a confusing jumbled mess. I didn't understand it. The only thing I knew was that Sonic and Tails were in it, and it was animated. But there was nothing compelling.

Unfornately, I was never able to watch any episodes of SatAM. Dad would have us play outside on a nice day than watch it :(
